OUR PURPOSE

There are many congregations to choose from in the Washington area and so we recently asked ourselves the question, why should we exist as a congregation?  What is it about us that sets us a part from most of the other congregations in the community?  What do we do better than most?  The unanimous answer of our members was that we preach and teach the whole counsel of God.  We dine spiritually on the meat of the word not the just the milk and expect our members to grow from this instruction so that they might carry out the work of the ministry, edifying the body of Christ, and growing into the likeness of Jesus. As Paul declared it so well in his book to the Ephesians:

"And He Himself gave some to be apostles, some prophets, some evangelists, and some pastors and teachers, for the equipping of the saints for the work of ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ, till we all come to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to a perfect man, to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ; that we should no longer be children, tossed to and fro and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the trickery of men, in the cunning craftiness of deceitful plotting, but, speaking the truth in love, may grow up in all things into Him who is the head — Christ — from whom the whole body, joined and knit together by what every joint supplies, according to the effective working by which every part does its share, causes growth of the body for the edifying of itself in love." (NKJV)

Our church does not exist to entertain Christians nor are our messages designed to always be devotional and inspirational.  We do not water down our messages in order to make them appeal to the unbeliever nor do we strive to always send our Saints out feeling better than when they came in.  Sometimes the preaching of the Word of God and the ministry of the Holy Spirit "steps on our toes" about sin that we need to surrender to God.  The Word therefore at times calls us to repentance rather than rejoicing.

At this point we are still a small congregation that can not offer all the programs and amenities that larger churches can offer however we do offer an environment of Christian unity and love and a spiritual feast that will enable you to grow to your full potential in Christ.  And if you are not a believer or have questions about your standing before God, we can show you how you can know with complete assurance that if you died today you would be in the presence of the almighty God and His Savior Jesus Christ.

This was the purpose this congregation started in 1970 and it is the purpose we seek to fulfill almost 40 years later.  We are an old fashioned Bible believing and Bible preaching congregation that seeks to win the lost and build up and edify the Saints.  We would welcome you to join us in our quest to serve God.
